Outreach programs

Keystone First reaches out to members with special health needs to ensure they have access to care and know the importance of regular doctor visits. Our outreach programs are designed to develop one-on-one relationships with members so we can play an active role in their care.

Health Education Outreach Advisory Community (HEAOC)

HEOAC strengthens and promotes community trust. HEOAC is comprised of community members who understand and appreciate Keystone First's mission of helping people get care, stay well and build healthy communities. HEOAC acts as a "goodwill ambassador" for Keystone First. Members include providers, community advocates, and Keystone First members who demonstrate a strong investment in their communities. Many participants have a history of advocacy for the people and are knowledgeable about and supportive of Keystone First's mission.

Advocacy

We have a special concern for those who are poor. This mission is at the heart of our work, and drives us to go beyond what’s expected of a health care company. We want to make a difference in our members’ lives and in their communities. We are committed to providing our associates and community partners with information about legislative issues that could negatively affect our members. By advocating for our members, we are working to fulfill our mission and demonstrate our values. We invite advocates to share their stories. Please send us your story.

Job creation partnership

We work with the Philadelphia Transitional Work Corporation, the Philadelphia County Assistance Offices, People’s Emergency Center and other programs that provide paid work experience to individuals who receive Medical Assistance. This transitional work program provides more than temporary jobs—it gives the members extensive training that helps them develop transferable skills that will benefit them for future employment.

Since this program began in 2008, Keystone First has recruited over 80 people to work in our public affairs, community outreach solutions, operations and medical affairs departments. Of that number, 54 have been hired into permanent, full-time positions, and 8 have been promoted to other positions with increased responsibilities and pay.

Supplier diversity

Keystone First has a proactive supplier diversity program that seeks to provide minority- and women-owned suppliers with access to purchasing opportunities. Our program currently consists of 66% minority-owned and 34% women-owned businesses. The purchasing department continuously works to expand this program by communicating monthly with the Minority Business Enterprise Center (MBEC) and the Minority Supplier Development Council (MSDC) to exchange ideas on enhancing the program. By creating awareness about the importance of providing economic support to small businesses, an important part of the communities we serve, our purchasing department continues to offer opportunities to a diverse group of vendors.
